2021 GMC Canyon Receives Consumer Guide Best Buy Award

Consumer Guide Automotive has recognized the 2021 GMC Canyon pickup truck with its top Best Buy award.

The 2021 GMC Canyon was evaluated in Consumer Guide Automotive’s compact pickup truck category. However, the organization points out that “the vehicles in this class are almost as large as some full-size pickups were 30 years ago. Most of them are similar in size and ‘footprint’ to a midsize SUV.”

Other vehicles evaluated in the category include the Jeep Gladiator, the Honda Ridgeline, the Ford Ranger, the Nissan Frontier and the Toyota Tacoma, in addition to the Chevy Colorado which Consumer Guide also rated as a Best Buy in its segment.

The 2021 GMC Canyon was recognized for offering “up-to-date technology features and excellent all-around refinement, along with some options that its competitors can’t match.”

The organization points to the GMC Canyon Denali for its unique chrome grille, heated and ventilated front seats, and 20-inch aluminum wheels, as well as the latest off-roader-spec AT4 model, which gets 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires, a locking rear differential, and off-road-ready suspension.

The organization also praises the 2021 GMC Canyon for its “respectable” fuel economy, in particular the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGZ and eight-speed automatic transmission combo, which achieved 21.6 mpg with 75 percent highway driving in Denali Crew Cab trim during Consumer Guide internal testing.

“The GMC Canyon faces strong competition from class rivals, but continues to achieve Best Buy status because of its broad model lineup, available diesel engine, and the availability of a full-time 4WD system,” Consumer Guide Automotive states. “Pricing on top-line Canyon models reaches into the territory of full-size trucks that offer more passenger space and cargo-hauling capacity. However, for shoppers who need a truck that’s more economical and easier to maneuver, the Canyon is a great choice.”
